Rules Are Made To Be Changed

I know it all sounds to be rhetorical, rules are made to be changed, but it
seems that it has become the norm for some of the local tracks in Florida. I
won't get into pointing fingers, so I'll keep general. The rules in local
competition are developed to keep classes consistent. Consistent in the car
counts, but most of all, consistent in equality or fairness. It has been brought
to my attention that some tracks are taking a street stock class and trying to
make late models out of their cars when the street stock guys are giving every
dime that they have to compete with the present rules. Some of them have reached
the top in their class. When you make a rule change such as, this year we are
going to let the street stock guys have fiberglass bodies. It sounds to me like
you are trying to make two classes into one class. I say, if you are going to
have a street stock or super stock, bodies should be stock steel bodies. If you
are building a sportsman's class, then have a sportsman class with fiberglass
bodies on them. The racer that I talked to about this problem has definitely
spent his last dime to prepare a super stock race car with a steel body that, at
his racetrack will put him at a disadvantage.
My answer to the problem is that if a track wants to make rules as such to take
a steel body class and put fiberglass bodies on them, there should be
substantial concessions for the guy with the stock body on his car in a stock
class (i.e.. weight, carburetors, etc.).
So my Bottomline for today is....... All you local
racetrack promoters and owners remember, your racetrack runs on your lower class
car counts, so if you want to have a successful local racing venue, don't mess
with the itinerary.
Till next time,
